Whitby has a great heritage
with over a thousand years of maritime and religious
history. Explore the atmospheric ruins of 12th century
Whitby Abbey high on the East Cliff, visible from almost
anywhere in town - alongside is the Church of St. Mary,
and its spooky churchyard, one of the many local inspirations
for Bram Stoker's novel 'Dracula'. 199 stone steps lead
down from the churchyard into town where you can walk
along cobbled streets, browse the craft shops, jet and
amber workshops, buy fresh fish and Whitby smoked kippers,
and end up at the picturesque harbour. |

| Captain Cook sailed from here in his flagship
the 'Endeavour' to discover the new world (the replica
ship returns to Whitby regularly and you can see this from
the apartments). Come for Whitby Regatta, stay for
Folk Week or jazz and world music festivals. Visit
during one of the two Goth weekends - a unique experience!
View the spectacular scenery of the surrounding area with
beaches, walking, biking, fishing and boating.
Nearby the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway winds its way
from Grosmont to Pickering, calling at the 'Heartbeat' village
of Goathland.
See Robin Hood's Bay, only a short drive away or you can walk
along the coastal path. Here, many alleyways tumble down to
the rocky bay where smugglers used to unload their cargo many
years ago - you can still picture the scene!
River Forge's two apartments are superbly situated overlooking
the marina, and within walking distance of all the shops,
restaurants and pubs serving meals. With large picture windows
to take full advantage of the views, the apartments are light,
spacious and tastefully furnished to a high standard, complete
with gas central heating, to provide warm and very comfortable
accommodation at any time of the year.
The apartments can be booked together, sleeping a total of
12 people, or separately for 3-4 people in Riverside and up
to 8 people in Marina View. Marina View has the advantage
of a balcony opening straight from the sitting room, where
you can sit and watch the world go by. Both apartments have
outside seating areas to the rear of the property. |
